What to Know about Floss Picks

A dental floss pick is a small plastic tool which has one end curved that can be used to hold pieces of dental floss and the other end has a sharp pick which can be used in place of an obsolete wooden toothpick

The curved end of a dental floss pick can be used to remove food particles trapped in between the teeth while the sharp pointed other end can be used to remove large food particles that get caught along the gum line or between the teeth.

It has been recommended by the dentist to floss the teeth at least once on daily basis but trust me, flossing is not interesting, all you do is insert the floss pick into the teeth intervals for some minutes trying to pick out tiny food particles which are not easy.

But if we are to follow the specialists by their words, Kevin Sand, a cosmetic dentist who works in Beverly Hills say we must floss the teeth every day and also gave reasons for this statement, he said it is necessary because plaques build up in the teeth within 24 hours and it would be even more appropriate to floss twice daily. He further advice to floss at night before going to bed, since it has been observed that the saliva gland start the production of plaque at night while we are sleeping.

To achieve proper flossing of the teeth, you need to take your time with it and make sure you reach between each tooth, do not be in a hurry to floss, else it may be a waste of time and floss picks itself.

He finally advised that floss picks should only be used by professionals on gums, this is because the gums holding each tooth (Papilla) does not usually grow, once it is damaged, it cannot grow back to its initial form, this may disrupt the teeth and disfigure our smile.
