WhatsApp has turned out to be the most used social media platform, when it comes to conversation between peers, both individually and in groups.
With the alarming rate in which fake news are being spread, The social media giant has moved to curb the spread of fake news on its platform, in an announcement made, WhatsApp will move to limit the number of times a user can forward a message to just five individuals/groups.
According to a statement made by Victoria Grand, vice president for policy and communications at WhatsApp in an event in Jakarta, he said “We’re imposing a limit of five messages all over the world as of today.”
This is not the first time they will implement this strategy as WhatsApp efefctively implemented the measure in India in July 2018 after the spread of rumours on social media led to killings and lynching attempts.
He further stated that from Monday, users who update their app, will no longer be able to forward messages to a maximum of 20 individuals or groups as was the case before.
