The United Kingdom's government is hoping to cut down huge expenses on road construction not to mention disruptive sets of roadworks by deploying micro-robot technology.
They have recently announced investments totaling almost £27m in a series of research projects to allow for pipework and tunnel repairs under roads without having to excavate.
It is hoped one centimeter long micro-robots will be able to locate and mend pipes, potentially saving the economy £5bn annually and boosting productivity as fewer motorists and loads get stuck.
University of Sheffield Professor Kirill Horoshenkov is leading a consortium of scientists from Birmingham, Bristol and Leeds universities to develop the technology.Labels: Micro-robot, Road Construction, Technology
